Hi - I'm Ulrike Mieke, but everyone calls me, Mieke.

I’m a South African Children’s Book Illustrator currently living in Brighton, UK with my husband. I came to the world of illustration after working as an Au Pair during covid, filling my sketchbooks and absorbing every short course and book available, which led me to complete my Masters in Illustration at Falmouth University. I love exploring childhood and memory in my work, using primarily traditional mediums of gouache, crayons and coloured pencils. Writing gentle and thoughtful stories is a passion of mine, my first author-illustrated picture book, All things Red is looking for a home. I enjoy adding storytelling to a wide range of commissions and clients, from branding, editorials, maps to children’s books.

When I'm not drawing, you can find me teaching at BIMM University in Brighton, hosting a Walk and Draw or event for Flock Brighton or having a dig in my garden!
